Gillian Anderson: 'Mysterious' detective Stella Gibson my favourite role
Belfast Telegraph: 24 December 2015
Filming on the third series of the hit BBC drama has started, and Anderson said it has been exciting to return to the character.
She told the Press Association: "We've done a couple of weeks of filming already, it's nice to be in her shoes again - it's nice to be in her clothes again."
Series two ended on a cliffhanger as DSI Gibson cradled wounded serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan).
Talking about why Stella was her favourite character she said: "Partly that's maybe where I am in my life and my age now, but I also feel like she's quite unique and I still find her mysterious. I still am intrigued by her and want to see what her journey is. So that interests me."
While not much is known about the plot for the third series of The Fall, Anderson said it would reveal more about her character's background, saying: " There are bits and pieces, little things that are said that reveal a little bit about where she's come from and what her life experience is... what brought her to be where she is today."
The X-Files returns in January 2016 for a six-episode run, and both Anderson and David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) will reprise their famous roles.
Anderson said its return excites her because " I think we all realise that we're giving the fans something they've been waiting for for a long time. We had fun in the process of doing that for them - so that's quite nice."
She has also lent her voice to a project with Audible as the narrator of the Wilkie Collins story, Mrs Zant and The Ghost. She says part of the appeal of the project was the fact that it was tied to the old Victorian tradition of sharing ghost stories on Christmas Eve.
"I understand my 'sci-fi cred' as a result of it (The X-Files) and why I might be asked to do a 'sci-fi' audio book because of that fact," she said, "But I think I've only actually come to terms in the last maybe two or three years, what a fan I am myself of sci-fi because I would have said not at all, I'm not interested in it, it's something I did for a period of time... but actually there is a fan in there in me."
