News Archive: October 2003 Songwriter Helps Buskaid Posted at 9:33 AM (PST) on Thursday, October 30, 2003 Are you already thinking about holiday presents for your friends and family this year? Here's a suggestion. Sue Pyper, an award winning singer/songwriter, will donate $5 to Buskaid from each of her "Before You Learn To Fly" CDs purchased via her website. All you have to do is type/write "Gillian Anderson" on your purchase order. "Not since a good friend popped an Indigo Girls tape into my Walkman back in the late 1980s have I been as pleasantly surprised by a folk musician as I was by Sue Pyper. Oh, there have been individual songs that I've liked, technical prowess that has impressed, and voices that have wowed, but for overall musical tone, subject diversity and lyrical interest, Pyper wins hands down." -- Jenna Ball, Rambles (September 20, 2003) The whole CD is great! Reviews and sample tracks are available on her website. 6th Annual Cracked Xmas Event Posted at 10:23 PM (PST) on Monday, October 27, 2003 Tickets are now on sale for the 6th Annual Cracked Xmas Comedy/Musical Show and Auction, to be held on December 7th in Los Angeles. Gillian in Two Magazines Posted at 8:41 PM (PDT) on Monday, October 20, 2003 The October 20th issue of In Touch Weekly magazine contains a short article about self-help books which mentions Gillian: Gillian Anderson often turns to Buddhism at important times in her life -- a Buddhist priest married her and her first (now former) husband on a golf course. Though that marriage lasted only three years, Gillian is hoping to find a lasting relationship with a British photojournalist. The former X-Files star says one of her favorite books is When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times, by Pema Chodron, a Buddhist teacher who gives advice on how we can free ourselves from suffering. Thanks Gillian and David: The Archives. The current issue of Australian Woman's Day magazine contains a new picture of Gillian at the recent California Wine charity event in London. The picture can be viewed here. Thanks amjustlurking. Message from Gillian Posted at 10:03 AM (PDT) on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 Oh my God, everyone, I cannot believe I have neglected for so long to write and thank everyone who participated in the auction. I have been in a whirlwind of a move in London (my house is for sale by the way, if anyone is interested, but no one is allowed to just go see it for the sake of seeing it -- and there will be big consequences for anyone that does -- but it's very expensive) and I am in San Francisco to see my best friend but landed here with sinusitis I caught on the plane and so have been flat on my back practically since I arrived. God, I love this city. God, I hate this cold. Anyhoo, thank you everyone so much for working so hard every year to make the auction as good as it can be and that includes everyone who contributes simply by coughing (that's what I'm doing) up the money to buy something, but also just the pure enthusiasm that so many of you seem to have as you find ways to continually raise money for NF and Buskaid. It's just impressive and I, and many others, are extremely, perpetually grateful. Now I, must go back to bed. -Gillian Gillian at a UK Charity Event Posted at 2:55 PM (PDT) on Thursday, October 9, 2003 Yesterday in London, Gillian attended California Wine's charity event, "California Dreaming" - A Celebration of Californian Wines to raise awareness for the Children's Charity Facing the World*.
